Please take the clouds away...
Welcome to my sunroom - it has been a nice lil' hangout lately because...
....well, you see... we have been having lots of rain...
...LOTS of rain. Our driveway is under this - yep, that is our front flower bed being swept away and normally this is just pasture field.
...A river runs through our front yard - NOT REALLY - but it looked like it.
We were under a flash flood Monday - and within a matter of minutes - this happened. Fortunately, none of our property was damaged - just a few fences down and some flowers lost. Absolutely nothing compared to what some people face during floods. And a couple of hours later it was gone.
...But it hasn't stopped raining since so I've been hanging out in the brightest room of our house when I could and sprucing it up a bit. I've been "loving on orange" lately so I thought I'd bring a lil' bit in the sunroom. Here is what I did...
I layered a throw rug I had on my front porch over my check rug and brought in a bright orange pillow...
I added a few orange branches to my big vase...
Here was a project I did several months ago - I took grain scoops from the feed store and hung them on the wall - perfect wall sconces for a farmhouse don't you think?
I brought in an old farmhouse table I had at the cabin...
...one of my ferns sets atop an old column...
A year ago I purchased this old turkey grower grain sack already framed at a yard sale! SCORE!
My lil' writing, reading corner / phone table... Thanks Ms. Evelyn for my "Summer Cottage" magazine - I love it!
This is something I've had for years and I love it. It is simply a table attached to an old door and it holds lots of lil' things I like or should I say....love.
One of those things is an old piece of cut wood I found in the barn. Shaun's late father had it stashed away and I thought it was a beautiful piece of cedar. I sanded it and I use it as a lil' lift plus it reminds me of Glen.
Another one of my favorite things is my one gallon old watering can gifted to me by my grandfather. I never see cans this size - it is very special to me.
You can see our Barn Light Electric Gooseneck lights outside. They are still one of my favorite things about the exterior of our home.
You can see the table tucked in the left corner here. I intend to paint it - just hasn't happened yet.
This room has a metal ceiling - something my hubby was set on but I love it just as much. The fan however, not something I wanted but he said we needed it for air flow. I agree he was right BUT a cool light would have been better.
Another project is to put a shelf here so I can have more places to set things - imagine that!
Thanks for looking around.
Hope it brings you some sunshine like it has me lately.
Looking forward to the sun shining soon!
Happy Summer!
Whoa, that is a lot of water! I'm glad it receded quickly!
ReplyDeleteYour sunroom is so beautiful!! I am lovin' the cheery pops of orange in the room!
What a wonderful room to get away from too much rain or whatever! Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this room. It is cheerful and cozy. Love the pops of orange. Thanks for sharing! Robin
ReplyDeleteI just kinda really think you hung the moon when it comes to decorating. Your sunroom is amazing.
ReplyDeleteCathy- It looks absolutely stunning. Your house turned out looking so beautiful. That is a whole lotta water you got there though! I think that orange is bittersweet? It is my favorite shrub! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteCathy, what a beautiful room! I can see why you spend so much time there :) So many great personalized touches with stories to tell. So glad there was no real damage with the flood thru your yard! I would've been panicking...we had a flash flood here in May, and my son awoke in his finished basement bedroom to a waterfall coming thru his window...ugh. Thankfully no permanent damage here either, but it was a pain to clean up!
ReplyDeleteCathy,
ReplyDeleteThe sunroom looks beautiful. We had rain like that right before Summer and did a bunch of damage to the farm. Now we're in a dryspell grrrr....Don't you wish it could just spread it self out, lol.
Hugs,

Your sunroom is absolutely gorgeous! You surely know the furniture to set up in this room. Likewise, you made a great choice on the lighting fixtures too. They provide warmth and comfort to the place. But for me, the clock was truly the center of attraction, though. It was really huge! You'll never forget about your stay in there. Hehe!
