...actually she is officially registered as "The Black Pearl".
This is my son's 10 month old calf that he has begun showing in local fairs. He shows Pearl as part of the 4-H heifer chain program.
Isn't she pretty? Solid black and not a blemish anywhere.
Casen loves her...
Here he is waiting for his class...
...Ready to walk her in the ring...
...Cooling it in the shade...
...patiently waiting... She was so good for this being her first show as well as his first time showing.
...Leading her around the ring...
...Getting her feet set...
...in part of the line-up as the judge walks through...
...in the end - he was Reserve Grand Champion (2nd) in the overall Simmental class...
...as well as the Grand Champion (1st) in his age division and in the 4-H division.. He also received 2nd place for showmanship. Not to bad for their first show.
Many thanks to the local fair board, 4-H, Amy for her help and guidance, and to the hubby for many hours of working with her and Casen.
So on to the next show - just another thing we are managing to somehow squeeze in this summer!
Happy 4th of July!
*UPDATE* - Casen showed Pearl again tonight at the Hart Co. Fair - and guess what -
SHE WON AGAIN! Our girl, Pearl!
Great Job Casen - we are so proud of you and your effort!
I know you are proud of your son as you should be. Loved seeing the pictures and wish you and yours a Happy 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteI love it when kids get involved in things such as this. We try to keep our grandkids busy with outdoors activities as much as possible. Congratulations on all the hard work. It certainly paid off.

ReplyDeleteThanks everyone - we are really proud of Casen and Pearl both!
ReplyDeleteCathy, This is a sweet post and it brings back memories as our son showed steers in 4-H. He started at about the same age as your son and raised a show steer every year until he graduated from high school. It was a family project that we all loved. Those cows are just amazing gentle giants (usually)! Congratulations to your son - he's doing a great job. ~ Dori ~
ReplyDeleteCathy, I can't believe Casen is as tall as he is now!! My goodness where does the time go? Congrats to him and Pearl. Made me smile. hugs.....Pammie
