We have....

...drumroll please................................ WINDOWS - Yeah!  After a very loooooooong, freezing cold, extra wet, snowy white, frigid dead of winter - we have a lil' "closure" in the construction of our farmhouse.  Here you can see the windows in the sunroom - I love the light pouring in.
Here is our view out one of the front windows - nothing like cows, barns, trees and grass - that is exactly what we wanted to see out our front door - peace and quiet.
And I'm super excited about my front door.  I have seen this style door on a lot of older homes - the real solid wood ones I'm sure - I believe my friend over at Bella Della has a great old door similar to this on her beautiful farmhouse.  But I just love it - it's fiberglass but I think it looks like a farmhouse and that is what we had hoped for.
Here it is from the inside looking out...BUT I need your help!  If you look back a couple of posts you'll see where I talked about our exterior color choices.  Now tell me what color you think this door ought to be.  It will be with browns, kind of a rich celery green color and stone.  Now, usually I have no problem with color - 'cause I love color and I think "heck, it is just paint" but I'm stumped.  So share with me if you have a great color in mind - who knows - If I pick your color - I'll send you a Cathy Cobblestone present. ;-)
And another big decision - is kitchen layout.  As you can see - right now - it is just a long rectangle - kind of looks like a bowling alley - but I've got some ideas.  Many of which have been inspired by YOU!
Hope you all had a blessed Monday - and please don't forget to tell me what you think about the color of my front door - I really need your help!

Have a happy day,
Cathy

Hi Cathy - OK, I'm throwing this out there. You can see your barn across the way. I'm thinking a rusty barn red for your front door. It looks country, it'll stand out and it'll draw the viewers eye from your home to the barn and connect the dots!

There it is! My 2 cents worth!

I know you already know this...but I A.D.O.R.E. your blog...and your tastes!! Why not paint the front door to look like stained wood?!?! That would make it look more authentic. You could even "stain" it in a weathered gray. Can you tell I'm hoping for a "Cathy Cobblestone" gift!!! :)

Well, we are off to a great start! Two great suggestions already - neither of which I had thought of. Keep 'em coming!

Ms Cathy!
I can't believe you are stumped about the color of your door??? huh? Well, since you are (lol!!) my suggestion is ♥RED♥, a deep country red. Not bright and bold, but a deeper "country" color that will go well with your beautiful surroundings :) I think that ♥RED♥ doors are so warm and welcoming. I'd love to have one:)
Your new home is looking soooo beautiful ~ thanks for sharing the progress with us!
Hugz,
Cathy♥♥

How about using the same color as the shutters. You could always add color to door with a colorful wreath. I am sure you will have beautiful potted plants on the porch. I like a dark red as well.
Have a great day!

Your new home is coming along nicely. Love all the windows and the view!
With the colors you said the house will be I vote for a deep red as well. On the barn red side. I saw a home in Washington that I fell in love with. Wish I still had the picture of it. The base was a sage green, deep cream windows and the trim was a darker tone of sage. The entry had wooden beams for the porch supports but the cherry on top was the beautifl deep reddish/barn color they used on the door! It was gorgous!
Can't wait to see what you decide on!
I think red is the popular vote so far!
Have a wonderful day.

So glad you guys are getting some progress after all of the crazy weather. LOVE the door! I have to say go for a red door.

Oh Cathy what fun watching all of this transpire! Love the views you have out your windows! I would suggest driving around in subdivisions and looking at houses and what colors you see that you like! Although I would have to say that I agree with Vickie on a rusty barn red, not to bright!

Cathy, I think Rookwood Red (Sherwin Williams) would look good on the front door. It is a deep red almost brown but still has that old barn look. Love the colors that you have picked out and just know that it all will be so warm and inviting when you finish. Keep posting!

I also always love a barn red and think it looks so inviting!

I'd have to go with a deep red. I googled red doors and found houses similar in color to the colors you have picked & it looked fabulous!

Looking good girl. Love the style of your home and all the colors you have chosen. I would think that a really dark red door or a dark brown one would look nice. Can't wait to see what you choose.

Oh my - seems like everybody has red on their mind. And of course - you all know I just LOOOOOVE red - so it very well may end up that color. Or maybe a blue - yep - I'm thinking about it - the right shade of course - or maybe more of an orangy/rusty/red like Vickie said. Well see. I have a ways to go yet.

Cathy, you have such a great eye for color, it will come to you, I'm sure. But when I saw your comments, I immediately thought how you love fall and all the orangey reds with the season. What about one of those leaf colors or even the color of baked pumpkin pie with a brown glaze. Just had fun thinking of it, but as I said you'll come up with the perfect color!

Everything is looking super!

How about Chocolate brown and maybe a little distressing on the door?

I like the 1st 2 suggestions best. Red always looks good at Christmas and July 4th w/ decor, but also since your colors seem to be red, sage and blue. If you wanted to do something really wonky, you could paint it that aqua/robin's egg blue you use alot. Like the stain idea too...that just says aged/country.

Cathy Cobblestone said...

Thank you all so much! Your ideas are GRRRRRREAT! I just love color - it is so hard for me to pick! I love them all but as soon as I do - I'll let ya know and maybe I'll get to share a surpise with someone. Keep those colors coming!

I love the deep rich red idea as well! You could paint it black it's always classic. Add a pretty red wreath to really make it pop.

I love a red door! Or you could go with the dark brown like your shutters, with a lovely red wreath with just pop! Or I also have been loving the idea of a yellow door one that would blend with your lovely soft green.

How exciting. Love your windows. Can never have too much light. My vote for front door would be red. But whatever you decide, it will be welcoming and have your signature on it.

yes'm, I'm in the deep red corner too.

Your place is just looking gorgeous. I have to say--I am thinking a barn red for that door--would stand out just enough with the browns and celery shades and be very farmhouse style :)

Has anyone said Yellow yet? Its bright and different but still country and inviting!

Just popped in after taking a blggine break this winter...but my vote is a black door. I have a barn red front door that is getting a nice coat of rich black paint as soon as the weather permits! Everything looks good on it and by it! Celery green and black with a punch of rockwork..perfect!
