I Found the Perfect Rug...update to last post!

Well.....since my last post about adding a touch of blue to my sun room...I happened upon the perfect rug.  Don't get me wrong....I love color....but I do have a hard time committing on bigger pieces.  The reason is I like to change quite a bit and well, honestly...rugs are expensive.  So when I invest in one I've got to love it and then it has to be "neutral enough" for me to use with lots of different things and colors.

So a couple of weeks back I was out on the road and stopped in a Tuesday Morning store and there it was - I loved the blue color and the pattern plus I thought it would go with about any color I'd pair with it in the future.  So....I bought it and I'm really happy with it!

Plus...it was really reasonable which made it that much better!

Happy 4th of July weekend Friends!

A Touch of the Blues...

No...I'm not sad...not singing the blues or feeling blue BUT I was longing for a little blue in our sun room.

With all the beautiful cobalt blue floating around, I wanted to add a touch to our house.  So for under $50.00 I found all that I needed.

My first purchase was this cobalt blue and white geometric rug I found at the Peddlers Mall...still had the new tag on it.  That was kind of my jumping off point and it only cost $14.00.  I simply layered it over my existing rug.  I always keep the rug in my sun room because the sun has a tendency to fade out our hardwood floors.
Next, was a fun ceramic pot I found at our Rite-Aid store for 50% off - cost $7.00!  I had a birds nest fern that needed replanting so it worked out perfect for my plant.

And the last couple of pieces included a denim pillow picked up at Big Lots - $12.00.  I actually got it for someone else who I was helping with their home - BUT - I had to keep it - don't worry...she never missed it ;-)

My blue and white striped storage basket was purchased at Fred's.  Cost was $12.00.  It was perfect to drop my large artificial fern down in.

So that's it...nothing fancy...but it gave me just the pop of color I was looking for!

This is the busiest week of the year for me you know!

Teacher Appreciation Week, Mother's Day and Derby Day equals overload for this "Flower Lady"!

Have a great week Friends!

Happy December...

As my Mamaw Ruby would say "GOODNESS GRACIOUS" - where is time going? Well, I second that Mamaw.  It's December already.  Not only is it the Christmas season, this month I'll celebrate my 18th wedding anniversary - (can. not. believe. it) and my hubby's birthday plus many other wonderful seasonal celebrations.  I hope you and your family are well - had a blessed Thanksgiving and are looking forward to lots of family time over the holiday season.  That is what I enjoy the most - getting together with family and friends.

Of course, we do have other rooms in this house of ours besides the sun room - but according to my posts - you wouldn't know it - haha.  That is where I seem to like to hang out the most and for some reason it gets the most attention.

So we will start the little Christmas tour there...the rest will soon follow.

I simply used a set of reindeer that I had, a small tree and some flocked greenery. I kept the decorations on the tree to just a couple of things - some ribbon in a bright turquoise to match the pillows I already had and just added some sweet lil' burlap birds and a few cardinals.

...tweet tweet...

The stockings that I have had for years just hang from some greenery over the windows...

...Even the plant has a welcome guest, a cardinal, nest and some pine cones...

This corner holds the chair I curl up in, a festive pillow and simple lit wreath...

...Over in the other corner is my "door" shelf.  It is home to another simple tree, some packages and a picture of my family when I was growing up and a few gardening things.  My watering cans stay out year round - they were gifts to me from my grandfather.  They are extra special now... because this will be the first Christmas he won't be with us.  He is celebrating in heaven this year.

Easy breezy lemon squeezy ornaments I made from pieces of cedar - brushed on a little white paint and stamped them with one of my favorite words for EVERY season - "JOY".

This is the view from our kitchen table... it says to me "Come in and sit a while". This is where I love to watch it snow!

This is our family tree nestled in the corner of the kitchen with all the ornaments we have collected over the years.  I decided to keep the turquoise color going in the kitchen too.  I'll show you that next.

 Merry Christmas Friends!
God Bless!

Sunroom, Oh Sunroom...

Please take the clouds away...

Welcome to my sunroom - it has been a nice lil' hangout lately because...

....well, you see... we have been having lots of rain...

...LOTS of rain.  Our driveway is under this - yep, that is our front flower bed being swept away and normally this is just pasture field.

...A river runs through our front yard - NOT REALLY - but it looked like it.

We were under a flash flood Monday - and within a matter of minutes - this happened.  Fortunately, none of our property was damaged - just a few fences down and some flowers lost.  Absolutely nothing compared to what some people face during floods.  And a couple of hours later it was gone.

...But it hasn't stopped raining since so I've been hanging out in the brightest room of our house when I could and sprucing it up a bit.  I've been "loving on orange" lately so I thought I'd bring a lil' bit in the sunroom.  Here is what I did...

I layered a throw rug I had on my front porch over my check rug and brought in a bright orange pillow...

I added a few orange branches to my big vase...

Here was a project I did several months ago - I took grain scoops from the feed store and hung them on the wall - perfect wall sconces for a farmhouse don't you think?

I brought in an old farmhouse table I had at the cabin...

...one of my ferns sets atop an old column...

A year ago I purchased this old turkey grower grain sack already framed at a yard sale!  SCORE!

My lil' writing, reading corner / phone table...  Thanks Ms. Evelyn for my "Summer Cottage" magazine - I love it!

This is something I've had for years and I love it.  It is simply a table attached to an old door and it holds lots of lil' things I like or should I say....love.

One of those things is an old piece of cut wood I found in the barn.  Shaun's late father had it stashed away and I thought it was a beautiful piece of cedar.  I sanded it and I use it as a lil' lift plus it reminds me of Glen.

Another one of my favorite things is my one gallon old watering can gifted to me by my grandfather.  I never see cans this size - it is very special to me.

You can see our Barn Light Electric Gooseneck lights outside.  They are still one of my favorite things about the exterior of our home.

You can see the table tucked in the left corner here.  I intend to paint it - just hasn't happened yet.

This room has a metal ceiling - something my hubby was set on but I love it just as much.  The fan however, not something I wanted but he said we needed it for air flow.  I agree he was right BUT a cool light would have been better.

Another project is to put a shelf here so I can have more places to set things - imagine that!

Thanks for looking around.

Hope it brings you some sunshine like it has me lately.

Looking forward to the sun shining soon!

Happy Summer!

The Sunroom..

...and just like the rest of our new home - it is still very much a work in progress.  My husband wanted a more "neutral" palette in this room - and trust me - when I see people who use all the lights and neutrals - I truly am drawn to them but when it comes to my own home - I'm a color girl - I can't help it.  So needless to say - I'm having trouble with this room - it is just burlap and navy - aaaaahhhh where is my red???  Don't worry - I think you will see it soon.  But till then - we will browse around a bit.

Excuse the absense of presents - they have already been opened ;-(  I miss them already.  Another project - paint coffee table and end tables - they were hand - me - downs from my sweet mamaw, Ruby.  But they don't quite fit the way they are.
In the other corner - a rustic ladder I had - a great place for my plethora of magazines - along with every drawer and basket in the house ;-)
My husband was also quite sure he wanted a metal ceiling and I must admit - I was leery - afraid it was going to be toooooo shiny.  I felt more comfortable with some that had already rusted a bit - but oh no - he wouldn't go for that.  Anyway, I have ended up liking it a lot and so does everyone that sees it.  I must give him credit for this one. (Ignore the plastic on the clock - my ladder is not tall enough to get up there - I can't believe I haven't taken care of this yet - oh well, someday)

I love my lamps I found - bought one 1/2 price and got the other for  FREE - just had to tighten it up a tad.  The burlap shades are my favorite.  That cool wooden ball came from the peddlers mall - I loved it from the moment I spotted it.
A couple of navy and white chairs flank each side of the entrance into the kitchen.  You'll also notice that the walls are simply made of 4X8 sheets of an exterior grade material that has a rustic barn wood look.
My Christmas tree in this room was full of some natural elements as well as a little sparkle.  Again, I stayed with more of a neutral palette of  navy, browns, creams, silver and white.
Pods, nests, snowflakes, birds, netting, burlap ribbon and traditional Christmas balls all found a home on the tree.

You can see we are gonna have a great view out the back when we get the yard all fixed up in the spring.  Right now, I'm waiting on the first snowfall - I think it will be so peaceful and relaxing sitting in this room.
And you remember from the previous post - you enter the sun room through our barn doors - sorry I just love talking about them. Now, only if I could get them painted.

Hope your Christmas was happy and that you made great memories with your family and friends.  Wishing you continued blessings for a happy new year!

Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love. - Hamilton Wright Mabie
