With Just a lil' paint - you can.....

Make your own curtain rods - I know many of you have probably done this - but here is a quick pic of one of my rods. I just needed a short curtain rod - so I made it out of large dowel rod - spray painted black - purchased wooden balls at the craft store - painted them black, added a few polka dots and a touch of antique glaze. Quick, easy, fun and mine. Doesn't get much easier than that!

Also, with a lil' paint you can turn a simple picture frame into a statement. These frames were very "plain Jane" - until they were papered with a "bead board" pattern wall paper - then custom painted to match my friend, Janet's room. Instead of placing a photo in the insert - I simply painted the wooden piece behind the glass chocolate brown to match the trim and monogrammed them for her and her husband. Now she has something uniquely hers.

These were jus' a couple of quick and easy tips I thought I'd share with you today. Have so much fun making your home your own!

Have a great day!

A shining LIGHT!

What an incredibly blessed week this has been. From start to finish - there have blessings surrounding our VBS. From the most wonderful volunteers who have so unselfishly given of their time and talent - to those who generously gave us beautiful decorations, to the wonderful turnout of children and adult participants.

This week was not without incident though - on Wednesday night, the church bus full of children coming to VBS was hit by another car. Thankfully, no one was injured in either vehicle and seeing the other car, that is amazing. God was definitely watching over everyone involved in that accident.

No matter how tired we all get, VBS is a week that revives your SPIRIT!!!! I am just so totally grateful for the people that were sent our way to make this a Vacation Bible School to remember. To all my helpers, thank you is simply not enough. I know that each of you are a shining light to all those children who came this week. So thank you, thank you so much.

Let your light shine!
Everybody have a beautiful weekend!

Here is what I've been up to!!!!

Welcome to Outrigger Island -

Kicked back by the Hawaiian Island

Our Volcano

You all will have to forgive me this week - 'cause I'm sure I'm gonna be a lil' off schedule on my posting. This is VBS week at our church - our theme - OUTRIGGER ISLAND - Living God's Unshakable Truths. As you can tell we have been BUSY BUSY getting ready but ya know, we were off to such a great start when a very gracious church called from another town and said, "We've got all this great stuff - please come get it, you are welcome to it." Well I rented a U-Haul and Shaun and I went and got it. What a blessing - such cute decorations and they were so giving. Thank you Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Well, we brought them back to our home church put our own lil' spin on a few things and this is our stage. An erupting volcano, a beautiful waterfall (kindly donated), a hut, and the list goes on - the kids absolutely loved it last night. We had 103 children Monday night and we hope for many more. My husband, Shaun, had the 10-12 year olds and he had 32 in his class - that is almost unheard of for that age group - so YEEEAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

You all please keep us in prayer and blessings to you all!!!

HMMMMMM... Blackberry Pudding!!!

Two cups fresh blackberries...

Cream margarine and sugar

Add milk and flour, salt, and baking powder - mix well...

Pour into a buttered 3 quart casserole

Layer blackberries on top

Boiling water and sugar - drizzle over berries

Bake until golden brown.... YUMMY - OH.. so good.

ANOTHER FARM TO TABLE FAVORITE!

These delicious berries were delivered to my backdoor by my father-n-law today. He's always thinking of us and bringing us delicious goodies. So I pondered "what shall I do with these beautiful blackberries - will I make jelly, a cobbler, or maybe try something different?" So I flipped though a couple of cookbooks and found this recipe for blackberry pudding - sounded DEEELISH!!! so I gave it a try. Well, just so you know - it was SOOOOOOO good and honestly, it's a lot like cobbler just with a slight difference. You must try it - add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you'll have the perfect summertime dessert!

Here's all the "must knows" and "how tos"...

1/3 cup margarine
2 cups sugar
1 cup milk
2 cups flour, sifted
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups blackberries

Cream the margarine and 1 cup of the sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy. Add the milk and a mixture of the flour, salt and baking powder, mix well. Pour into a buttered 3-quart baking pan. Layer the blackberries over the top. Drizzle a mixture of 2 cups boiling water and the remaining 1 cup sugar over the blackberries. Bake at 350 degrees for about 50 minutes or until top is golden brown. Yield: at least 12 servings.

Enjoy!

Ribbons and Dots and Bows, OH MY!

Now tell me, what girl doesn't like a lil' fluff. Even us farmgirls like pretty polka dots!! Actually, I LOOOOOOOOVE polka dots and ribbons - I put them on whatever I can (except my lil' boy that is). A sweet young lady ask me to make these frames for her wedding attendants - yes, they are bright - but each frame matches the color of their dresses. It is going to be an outdoor wedding so I'm sure the colors will be splendid with all the lush greenery around. I think they are lots of fun.

Here's one up close - I thought what she wanted on them was sweet - "As my friend, you share my life, as my maid of honor, you share my dream". We changed the others to bridesmaid and one for a lil' flower girl.

Remember, if you find a plain picture frame, there's nothing a lil' paint and bow can't fix!!! Have fun and do something that makes you happy!
